The Advocates Association, Bangalore, convened an urgent meeting comprising all Senior Advocates practicing before the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka. The primary agenda of the meeting was to deliberate upon the recent decision by the Supreme Court Collegium concerning the abrupt transfer of several sitting Judges of the Karnataka High Court to various other High Courts across the country.
During the meeting, there was a unanimous consensus among the Senior Advocates that the transfer of Judges, particularly without adequate transparency or consultation with the concerned stakeholders, was arbitrary and unjustified. The gathering firmly resolved that such a move was detrimental to the functioning and independence of the judiciary in Karnataka and must be opposed unequivocally.
It was decided that the Advocates Association Bangalore would formally oppose the decision of the Supreme Court Collegium and initiate all necessary steps to ensure that the matter is reconsidered, and the transfer orders are withdrawn forthwith.
In protest against the said decision, the Advocates Association Bangalore will be organizing a massive demonstration at Golden Gate, High Court of Karnataka, on Tuesday, 22nd April 2025, from 10:15 AM to 11:30 AM. The demonstration is intended as a mark of deep dissatisfaction and strong opposition to the Collegium’s move.
All Advocates practicing before the Hon’ble High Court are earnestly requested to participate in large numbers and show collective solidarity in safeguarding the integrity of the judiciary in the State.
Further, a formal request has been submitted to the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, urging that the ongoing judicial proceedings not be disrupted and that cases handled by participating Advocates not be adversely affected due to the protest.
To deliberate on the future course of action and broader legal recourse available, a General Body Meeting of the Advocates Association Bangalore has also been scheduled on the same day, 22nd April 2025, at 1:30 PM.
In addition, it was resolved that a delegation comprising Office Bearers of the Association and eminent Senior Advocates would seek an audience with the Hon’ble Union Law Minister and Judges of the Hon’ble Supreme Court to apprise them of the prevailing sentiments within the legal fraternity in Karnataka and to press for the immediate revocation of the transfer orders.
Memorandums, endorsed and signed by all Senior Advocates, are being sent to the Members of the Supreme Court Collegium, the Hon’ble President of India, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, and the Hon’ble Union Minister for Law and Justice, demanding urgent intervention and withdrawal of the transfer orders.
